Timestreams
While composing Timestreams, I was inspired by the concept of how time is manipulated by gravity – how the density and mass of an object can actually warp the fabric of time around it – and how that concept can be translated into a musical setting, where vertical density warps linear rhythms and durations. In the middle of this process, I happened upon a few movies revolving around the concept of the “multiverse,” or parallel universes that begin intersecting with one another. This further challenged my thoughts on the construct of time, and I began thinking of time as a steady liquid stream that winds and branches out to new places and sometimes converges back in on itself. In this piece, the persistent stream of time is perpetually manipulated by gravity and is influenced by alternate versions or timelines of itself, until they eventually collapse in on one another.
